Sign inIn 5.7 tonne-years LZ observes coherent elastic neutrino–nucleus scattering of solar ⁸B neutrinos at 4.5σ, alongside world-leading light-dark-matter limits down to 5 GeV. This places LZ in the 'neutrino fog' at 3–9 GeV, the irreducible background that sets the floor for low-mass direct detection; the same CEνNS process produces the few-electron signals that bound sub-GeV electron-recoil searches. It measures a background, not a dark-matter signal.
Published in PRL 137, 091806 (2026), with data on HEPData. Earlier XENONnT (2.73σ) and PandaX-4T (2.64σ) measurements of the same process agree, and all three are consistent with the Standard Model.

XENONnT (37 events vs 26.4 background, 2.73σ) and PandaX-4T (2.64σ) report consistent ⁸B CEνNS rates.

No experiment has yet reached 5σ alone. A combined xenon analysis, or a longer LZ or XENONnT exposure, would turn the evidence into an observation and give a measured ⁸B flux to compare with SNO.
